UK, September 6, 2006 - Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced the launch of PlayStation 3 in PAL territories will be delayed until March 2007. In an official statement Sony blamed the slippage on a lack of key components needed to manufacturer the consoles, adding, "the revision of the launch date in the SCEE territories is caused by the delay in the mass production schedule of the blue laser diode within the Sony Group, this affecting the timely procurement of key components to be utilised in PlayStation 3."

The delay will affect gamers in Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Africa and Australasia, who won't be able to officially get their hands on a PS3 until March next year. However, the Japanese and US launches of PlayStation 3 remain unaffected, released on November 11 and November 17 respectively. Sony's plan to ship six million consoles globally by the end of the 2007 fiscal year also remains unchanged.

Sony will have 400,000 units available in the USA for launch, and 100,000 units in Japan.
Looks like Wii will take the worldwide number 1 spot a lot quicker!!!! Those numbers are crazy low! Wii will be very cheap and it is already in mass production!

Looks like Xbox 360 will be the sales leader in this generation of consoles.

I also bet that HD-DVD will win the war against Blue Ray since the BR players will be double the price.

LOL, no way. Wii will take over worldwide Xbox 360 sales maybe even before PS3 launches. 360 has already flopped in Japan, argueably the most important market in the world. Nintendo Wii will break records there, and will sell very good in the rest of the world, making Nintendo number one in sales again this generation.

Mark my words. We will get back to this in a year.

I don't know how the 360 is doing in Japan but i really can't see the Wii outselling the other two in Europe and US even though it will be the first choice for small children.

This is my opinion how things will play out. The Wii will be number one in Japan and Xbox 360 will be number 1 in the US. PS3 will be number 2 in Japan and number 3 in the US. The Wii will probably be number 2 in the US. Klier is right, the Xbox 360 is bust in Japan. I don't understand why. Is it a bias towards their home grown systems or does the Xbox 360 not have enough games that interest the Japanese market?

For me I doubt I will buy a Wii for myself. It's lack of HDTV support and its funky controller are turnoffs for me. Maybe I'll get one for my kids since it will probably be the best platform kids games. Right now my daughters are happy with their PS2. They also have a Gamecube, Gameboy Advance, DS and their own PC to which they can play games.

A remake of Final Fantasy III sold hald a million copies (everything there was) in it's first week out, and the new Super Mario Bros (at number 2) has sold close to THREE MILLION JUST IN JAPAN since launch a few months back. Nothing on Xbox 360 comes even close, including worldwide numbers. In fact, there are 3 titles with little less or little more than 3 million copies sold for Nintendo DS in the top 10. This shows people are ready for a change, and Nintendo Wii will be just that: not just a hardware update (PS3/360), but a true next gen home console...

Top 10 games is Nintendo DS lite. Never in the history of gaming has this happened in Japan. Nintendo is rocking hard, and Wii is gaining momentum all over the world, in particular when the price will be announced (which will be low compared to the other systems)

It's the European TV of the year. Great choice Artist. Too bad we won't be able to hook up our PS3s to it yet though, unless we import. But with the low production numbers there will probably be a high demand and a very high import price....
