I agree that the complexities are great in F1. However, I also didn't say he alone did everything to improve the cars he has driven, but he has done a lot and is still not given due credit for it. Such drivers should really be given priority in any team IMO and, well, we all know how that worked with his team in '07. The engineers don't drive the cars and they rely a lot on the input from the development driver to do their work.

Alonso himself is the only one that says he brought 0.6 or 0.7 seconds to the team through testing and development. I don't agree with him on that, but I just think it is more than good fortune for him to be able to go to teams that was pretty slow the year before and end up in race-winning or championship-winning cars.

There all sorts of stories about Lauda, Senna, Schumacher on how hard they worked.

De la Rosa will soon be 37 which is exactly the age Schumi was when he quit. He was also heavily involved in the spygate episode so McLaren wanted to make a full clean-up and chose Kovalainen.
