You don't have to be someone dog, just ask Hamilton. It's your driving skills and not the team that determines if you're driver no1.

This is the McLaren politic which is far from being shared with the rest of the paddock and you can easily know why.

Re: Official: Alonso confirms return to Renault

Although conflicts can arise from an policy where a drivers are equal it does have it's benefits. Kimi and Mass were battling eye to eye until Mass could no longer battle for the WDC. Thanks to Massa's speed he was able to assist Kimi at the top helping him win the WDC.

Re: Official: Alonso confirms return to Renault

Quote:
Heikki Kovalainen has said he was not surprised about Renault's decision to drop him for 2008, after revealing he is mulling over two other options to remain in Formula One next year.

The Finn impressed in his debut season with Renault, claiming his maiden podium finish in the wet Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji and outscoring more experienced teammate Giancarlo Fisichella.

But it is understood that his speed ultimately cost him the chance of staying on board at Renault, because the returning Fernando Alonso did not want a teammate to pose the kind of challenge that he faced with Lewis Hamilton at McLaren this year.

That decision has left Kovalainen hunting for a drive elsewhere. But although most teams have already decided on their line-ups, he remains strongly linked with possibilities at McLaren, to replace Alonso, and also Toyota - where he could be granted a seat at the expense of Jarno Trulli.

Speaking to Finnish television channel MTV3, Kovalainen had said he was still weighing up the offers on the table.

"This was something we could expect," he said about Renault's choice of Alonso and Nelson Piquet Jr. "For some time we have been going through other options.

"Renault made this kind of a decision, but luckily there are two other options with interesting offers."

Re: Official: Alonso confirms return to Renault

Spinal Tap Meets Renault

It's been revealed that as part of his deal to sign for Flavio Briatore, Fernando Alonso has demanded the equivalent of a rock star's rider for each GP he races in the future. A 'rider' is the list of requirements that rock stars and divas want supplied to their dressing room before they go on stage. Fernando's rider includes:

* Choice of five different freshly-blended smoothies

* The latest X-Box games, plus four controllers

* A moped with the flag of Asturias painted across it

* His own personal chef and physio

* For Renault personnel to address him as 'Your Grace' at all times

* And the use of Nelson Piquet Junior as a footstool

Re: Official: Alonso confirms return to Renault

Haha, great cartoon! If F1 teams have learned anything from the Mansell-Piquet war in '86, Hamy-Alonso in '07 and Schumacher's dominance with a No. 2 driver, they too should wheel out the champagne, kingly portraits, money and red carpet for the team leader!

Should I be concerned that the cartoon does not depict a contract giving Alonso No. 1 status?

Re: Official: Alonso confirms return to Renault

^^
It doesn't, and neither do I know if it's stated in speech bubble. How do you guys think Piquet will do, does he have the pace to battle with the big guys at the top, and the balls to defy Alonso's rule at Renault. Will it be a case of King Arthur vs. knight Sir Lance a lot like it was at Mclaren?
