Honda deny Alonso reports from Thursday! Honda deny Alonso reports from Thursday A spokeswoman for the Honda Formula One team has denied reports linking Fernando Alonso with a switch in 2008. Sport Bild claimed on Thursday by that the Spaniard this week spent an entire day at the team's Brackley headquarters and even had a seat fitting. Reports also indicated that Alonso was given a personal tour by Ross Brawn, while the new team boss also apparently accompanied Rubens Barrichello to Honda-powered Super Aguri's Leafield base to clear a seat for next year. The Honda spokeswoman said: "Fernando has not visited our factory, and Honda Racing confirmed their drivers for the 2008 season back in July." It is also believed that, while Brawn did call in on Super Aguri with another person in tow, Barrichello was not part of the visiting party. F1-live

Re: McLaren - Alonso: breakup! F1: Alonso headed to... McLaren? - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER Fernando Alonso, recently let go from the telenovela known as the McLaren F1 Team, is in a bit of a quandary. He's looking for a team that can keep him at the top of the standings, but he only wants to sign a contract for a year. That's because the teams he really wants to join, Ferrari or BMW-Sauber, can't even think of making a move until the end of 2008 (and in Ferrari's case, really until the end of 2009). However, the only teams he's got a chance of signing with -- Renault, Red Bull, or Toyota -- have unresolved situations, aren't winners, and won't accept the one-year contract stipulation. Enter McLaren, which still has a cockpit open, but no one worthy to fill it. The driver the team really wants, Nico Rosberg, would require the jaws of life to be pried out of his Williams contract. The only pilots left are unknowns or as yet unproven. But the driver market will open up in a year... so if they could just find a proven winner who only wanted a one-year contract... then maybe... just maybe.... And that's how Spanish newspaper Diario As has come to report that Alonso's camp is in talks with Ron Dennis and McLaren about going back to the team. Alonso's people have, incredibly, engaged in the dialog, but have passed McLaren a list of conditions such as allowing Alonso to decide his race strategy. Nobody believes the reunion is actually going to happen, although more outlandish things have occurred in F1. Be that as it may, the fact that it's gotten this far is what puts the silly in silly season. Source: - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER ![]()

Re: McLaren - Alonso: breakup! > ^ I find this as pure B*. There are factors in the McCamp that would want Alonso back, namely technicians/engineers and some of the sponsors, but it's not gonna happen.

Re: McLaren - Alonso: breakup! Spanish firm moving on with Alonso A Spanish sponsor has followed the example of countryman Fernando Alonso by leaving McLaren Mercedes after the first of a multi-year contract. Mutua Madrilena, an insurance company, has ended its two-season deal and is now tipped to re-join Alonso in 2008, Spanish media reports on Thursday said. We reported that officials for the Spanish sponsor travelled to the British team's Woking base in late November to negotiate the contract split. Mutua Madrilena, whose sponsorship value is estimated at $5m per season, followed Alonso from Renault to McLaren at the end of 2006. Click here to find out more! The deal included branding on the 2007 McLaren car's front wing endplates, drivers' sleeves as well as helmets. f1live.com
