| What you hate about about F1, and proposed solutions... > ^ 1. Put the them damn front wing down again. [ thus making the front (wheels) more stable in front of turbulence/dirty air ] 2. Bring back widetrack car 3. Bring back slick tires. 4. Bring back active suspensions (good for so make reasons). [ * And upgrade then to incorporate active camber, active castor and active toe. * To cut the costs, outsource their production to a set of technology partners to make for everyone (and a real deal, NOT like this McLaren + M$ standard ECU crap). ] 5. Clean up the aerodynamics. [ * Ban winglets, barges, chimneys, ears and so on. * 2011 propositions are a move in the right direction, but the movable aero will generate only 50% of todays downforce. * So also USE (limited) GROUND - EFFECTS to get the other 50% back. ] 6. Free the engines, more power. [* 1.4 ltr. I4/V6 turbos or 3.5 NA V10s unrestricted ] 7. Fans, make up your damn minds: standard ECU/spec engines vs. illegal-hidden TC vs. legal TC [* I'll take the later, because with the slicks + widetrack + active suspensions formula the cars will actually have mecanical grip on slow corners/(exit) and over bumps.] |

| Re: What you hate about about F1, and propossed solutions. The two things I hate the most about F1 are the lack of overtaking and the limitations put on the car, which are of course related. I say remove all the limitations (except for stuff that will keep the drivers alive in serious crashes) and let the teams truly compete and innovate as much as they can. |

| Re: What you hate about about F1, and propossed solutions. Replace the people in charge of the sport. I say go back to the way it was in the 30s-50s. No wings, no sponsors...bias ply tires and wire spoke wheelss. Ok maybe not the last two. |

| Re: What you hate about about F1, and propossed solutions. i think, they should go back to basics. i don't mind F1 cars going slower, but i can't stand the fact that almost every race is like a damn parade. the Turkish gp says it all again. they made a mistake in the type of tyres they use now, they made a mistake in that stupid silly V8 engines, and that 19k rev limit. none of those stupid rulings encourages overtaking. the V8 engines means drivers barely lift for fast corners, and braking is later, thus hurting the chance of an overtaking opportunity. the 19k rev limit lacks the final kick when your about to overtake someone on the straights. Massa said preseason that he thinks that this season, overtaking will be less because of the 19k rev limit. now, that stupid 2 engine rules. we, fans, are paying high prices to trave and watch those cars race, not 'saving the engine for the next race in the last 20 laps'. we want real action, right till the chequered flag. i think this whole stupid 2 engine rule is just silly. the way things are going, i'm goin to stop watching f1 soon, with Max 'going green' and doing V6 stuff, and all those nonsense. |

This is the biggest non-sense I've ever heard. But that will reduce performance to go-kart levels. And that contradicts the purpose of the GP racer, to be the fastest track car. Nobody really watches go-karts, midget or whatever races really. And you're contradicting yourself. In the 1930s the teams had sponsorships as forms of goverment subsidies (german, italians, french were all subsidised). And the germans (MB and AU) were actually big and well organised teams (of up to 300 people) who build the highly expensive technological marvels known as the silver arrows (just like/identical today). They made sure their cars had the best transmissions, brakes, engines and their cars were build in wind tunnels and from advanged materials brought from the aviation industry. And without sponsors: - the teams will not have the money to make a super enforced monocoque that save people's life - the teams will have no quality control, thus from a field of 22 cars only 6 to 10 will finish grouped anywhere between 3/4 to 7 laps Do you really want to return to the days of probability of death 67% ?! Because I don't want some unsafe and unreliable slow piece of crap - much of the grid will have to be filled with GP2 cars as many F1 teams will have no money and thus pull out - with the big teams and their techno marvels out, the spectators/audience will drop dramatically (just like it happen after WWII with the silver arrows gone), and GP/F1 racing will no longer be the most popular form of motor-sport (this is what happened in 50s when endurance/sport car racing overtook GP/F1 racing).

The basics of GP/F1 is to make the cars as fast as possible under regulations and have the fastest track cars in the world. There's no basics other than that. Technological retardation, conservation for the sake of nostalgia and slow cars don't belong here. Onto the real problems: The rev limitation/engine rules is just one problem. The problems in F1 regarding to spectacle/overtaking and inovation too, began in 1993 with the ban of the active ride cars (with their active suspensions). And was made worse ever since. - 1993 ban of active suspensions/active ride cars (= severe loss of mecanical grip, traction and stability) - the smaller wings - groved tires - 1.80 m narrowtrack (vs. the old 2.0 m widetrack) - lift of the front wing (cars no longer have any stability when encountering dirty air) - engine restrictions/limitations This aerodynamics of winglets, chimneys, ears (witch is not the best solution but is here because movable aero and ground effects are banned and the front and rear wing were made quite smaller) means the car in front creates turbulence/dirty air instead of suction/clean air like in the old days. Suction/clean air meant that the car behind received about 10% extra power thus allowing the overtake. (and superior power, either by engine or by clean air or by boost is needed to overtake) And because the car in the back has the front wing up (lifted after 2004) it means that its nose will be disturbed by this turbulence/dirty air if it goes near the car in front. Basicaly in this case its front wheels will lift thus losing direction. (so not only you wont have the extra clean air power, but your front no longer bites the ground) Solutions - front wing down where it belong (2011 proposals are in favor of this, but why wait so long ?!) - clean aero: return of ground effects (like Champ car) and/or movable wings (2011 FIA proposals; why wait so long ?! ) - active suspensions would also help here Engines need to be unrestricted: teams should chose IMO between 1.4 ltr. I4/V6 turbos or 3.5 NA V10s (as in some will take the turbos, others the V10s)

| Re: What you hate about about F1, and propossed solutions. That's what they said about Jean-Marie Balestre. But his succesor, (today's) Max Mosley is a lot lot worse. At least with Jean-Marie Balestre we had ground effects, turbo and active cars witch was the golden era of Formula 1. Mosley by contrast made Balestre look like a saint, with his agenda of baning and restricting. We need these people gone, but replace with people that are genuinly better . |

| Re: What you hate about about F1, and propossed solutions. By no sponsors I meant on the cars. I know they need sponsors, but I don't care for the cars covered in a bunch of ads, its too bad there isn't any other place to put them all. I am not a complete idiot. At least I hope. |
