Re: What you hate about about F1, and propossed solutions.

There's really not much of an alternative to liveries.
That's why the sponsors came to F1 in the first place. And without then 1968 would have been the year GP/F1 racing would have died.

Re: What you hate about about F1, and propossed solutions.

Killing sponsorship? No way! I know it pollutes the aesthetics of the F1 car, according to some, but there has to be be sponsors in F1. I am as old-style as they come, but even I can't agree with seeing sponsors get the boot. What I would like to see is sponsors being a little bit more responsible - i.e. companys bleeding $500 million a year in losses and laying off staff should not be sponsoring F1 cars!

I do agree that some team bosses in F1 need to go. Some of the big factory teams have spent billions and won squat. I think some of the marketing men that run F1 teams treat their involvement as some grandiose advertising exercise. If these guys are shown the door and real racing people run big factory teams, there might be more competition.

Re: What you hate about about F1, and propossed solutions.

1. Slick tires
- Pretty much unanimous about this.

2. Replace engine restrictions
- F1 should show off its engineering skills, not restrict them.

3. Limited testing budget
- Even the huge teams spend 20-25% of their budget on testing! That's $100-125 million per year. Unfortunately, this would be tough to enforce. There is a huge saving from limiting testing, but F1 seems to want to penny pinch by experimenting with durable tyres! Inexplicable.

4. Reduce driver aids
- I think the technology has made driving F1 too easy and getting into F1 too straightforward as well. It's my personal bias, but I think 19, 20 year-olds with meagre experience have no business in F1. All the technology, testing, simulators, driver aids help their cause.

5. Revive sequential gearboxes
- No more paddle shifts! Old gearboxes punish drivers for missing a gear. I want to see drivers get blisters on their hand after driving the Monaco GP!

6. Enforce, clarify sporting regulations
- If you steal another team's data, you get punished. If you spin out of a race, it should be clear whether or not you are allowed to get craned back onto the track!

Wouldn't be enough to improve mecanical grip.
As the track of today is too narrow (1.8 m vs. the 2.0 m old widetrack) and the current suspensions absorb shocks sideways not verticaly (like the old ones be it passive or active) and thus aren't really good over bumps or at following the road surface properly (that's why the need for TC and aero-winglets on today's cars). They (the suspensions of today) also need to be redesigned for every racetrack.

Agreed.
Realistically is forced induction vs. super high revers (of V10 layout as the V8s and V12s are flawed by their nature). Each with its merits and faults.

They'll go virtual with super simulators, super CFD computers and Co. benefiting the big teams (as the virtual testing is cheap, but the super computers, fancy technology centers are super expensive).

Impossible to police.
The (big) teams are already working at cracking the standard ECU and/or finding other ways to implement TC (and rest assured they will succeed).
And when the TC will be gone, the flaws of the (crap) cars will become more clear/visible.

Compared to real/big problems like the aerodynamics, (lack of) mecanical grip (witch makes the cars dependent on TC and aero winglets) and (underpower
restricted) engines this is irrelevant.

Unfortunately this never really happened in the 101 history of GP/F1 racing and its sanctioning body AIACR/FIA.
Political bias and interests ruled.

Should McLaren be punished (and I really hope it), it would only be fair to
punish the flexi brigade for running illegal car/parts.
And this includes Ferrari, BMW Sauber, Red Bull, and from what I'm hearing Renault and Honda. All these guys having run (way too) flexi floors or wings.

Re: What you hate about about F1, and propossed solutions.

i for one, would like to see the return of a stick, and 3 paddles. but thats not gonna happen.

with stick shifts, it 'allows' the driver to over rev the engine, and finally blow it. Max is looking at cutting costs at every angle, so blowing up engines at every race won't be the solution.

Re: What you hate about about F1, and propossed solutions.

My beef with F1? MAKE THE F__KING SPORT DELIMITED!!! That's it. Tell the teams that they have up to 200million and they can make the car however they but follow rough guidelines. That's it. The we will see what these companies are really made of.

Re: What you hate about about F1, and proposed solutions...

What I hate:
  • The politics
  • The constant rule changes
  • The recent "cost-saving" rules

My solutions (very simple):
  • Boycott/Remove/Assassinate Max Mosley
