Re: Silly Season Rumors!

Another silly rumor/speculation

Quote:
Is Alonso playing dirty to undermine Lewis?
Thursday 12th July 2007

Fernando Alonso has been accused of playing dirty by deliberately confusing Lewis Hamilton over set-up.

In an intriguing twist to the in-house McLaren battle for the World Championship, it is suggested that Alonso has adopted a policy of go-slow on Fridays in order to effectively sabotage his team-mate's prospects of victory.

Since being promoted to the role of race driver at McLaren, the British rookie has made no secret of his tendency to copy Fernando's set-up, but, it is alleged, he has now been sent down a dead-end by the cunning Spaniard.

Following his defeat at Indianapolis, where he topped the timesheets in all three practive sessions as well as the first two qualifying stints, Alonso's performances on Friday at both Magny-Cours and Silverstone have been been notably tardy.

In France, the double World Champion finished the opening day in a lowly eighth, whilst in Britain he was similarly uncompetitive, setting the sixth-fastest lap time of the day, almost a full second slower than pacesetter Kimi Raikkonen. On the Saturday, however, he immediately bounced back, recording a lap time in qualifying that was considerably faster than Hamilton's once fuel levels had been taken into account.

"On Saturday I went faster than Hamilton but then with less fuel in the tank he was able to win pole, and it seemed that there was a big party," Alonso reflected smugly. "Because of that, finishing ahead of him tastes even sweeter. Since Canada I have been a lot quicker than him."

To ensure harmony within the team, Ron Dennis has ordered both drivers to attend debriefings together, as well as share telemetry. Yet it could be that Hamilton has been sent a dummy at the past two events.

The youngster bemoaned his set-up after his deflating performance at Silverstone, and it is also claimed that he made a critical error when he misdiagnosed oversteer at his first pit stop during Sunday's race.

'Lewis called for a bit less front grip, which was achieved through amended tyre pressures and a front wing adjustment, but he got it wrong - on the middle stint the car understeered badly,' reported ITV's Ted Kravitz.

'The tyres started to grain and as they lost more and more grip, the fronts started to lock up under braking, which compounded the problem.

'Lewis also had a different rear suspension to Fernando that wasn't as kind to the tyres, and lost him more speed. The question is whether that was Lewis' choice, or whether there was only one new suspension available, and Alonso got it first.'

So I don't get, what's the dirty part ?!

If true, Hamilton should simply learn to make his own setup, instead of coping Alonso's, and/or provide the input to the engineer on suspension, wings or whatever.

Other "inferior legends" didn't have it so easy, so why should he ?!

How dare you allege racing god/F1 legend Hamilton of copying anyone! He is a true British original! Every legend is inferior when compared to __________.

Bourdais and Vettel at STR
'Two Sebastians' move closer

Jul.17 (GMM) Gerhard Berger is edging ever-nearer to rubber-stamping his preferred driver lineup for 2008.

After saying multiple Champ Car title winner Sebastien Bourdais "has my support" in his bid to land a Toro Rosso seat, former ten time GP winner Berger also enthused about another driver.

BMW test driver Sebastian Vettel, 20, has also been linked with an STR contract in 2008, and 50 per cent team owner Berger told Auto Motor und Sport: "The boy impresses me.

"He has brains and the right attitude for the job -- and that is already half of everything you need."

Austrian Berger does, however, reserve some caution about German Vettel's outright pace, after he finished behind a Renault, Toyota and Red Bull whilst substituting on debut for the injured Robert Kubica in the US grand prix this year.

Behind Ferrari and McLaren, BMW-Sauber's car is undoubtedly the third quickest this year.

Berger said: "We would only find out really how quick he is after a few races, because it is hard to judge after just one."

Re: Silly Season Rumors!

i bet both STR drivers will lose their seat next year. but i think among the 2, Scott SPeed is doing a better job at the moment.

but i question their move, for a rookie team, to have rookie driver(s)?

they should go for something like Renault's strategy. one veteran, and one rookie. but i'd love to see Vettel get the other seat tho. then perhaps, after 2-4 seasons with that team, he can move back to Beemer, and hopefully by that time, they're regular front runners, and we can see a potential young champ

Barrichello stays for one more year
Honda line up done

Jul.19 (GMM) The news is yet to be confirmed by the Japanese team, but Rubens Barrichello has signed a new one-year contract to keep racing for Honda in 2008.

The 35-year-old, who is the most experienced driver on the grid albeit younger than David Coulthard, revealed ahead of the European grand prix that he will stay on for a third consecutive season with the Brackley based outfit.

"When I came here in 2006, it was always my intention to develop a long-term relationship and help build a strong team together," Barrichello, 35, who switched from Ferrari at the end of the 2005 season, said on Thursday.

2007 has been an uncompetitive season for the Honda team, but Barrichello also indicated that current teammate Jenson Button will be honouring his long-term deal into next year.

He said: "Jenson and I have a great relationship together as team-mates and stability will be key as we look forward to the challenge of 2008.

"For now though, we have eight races remaining and that is where our focus lies."

STR to confirm Bourdais deal

Multiple Champ Car title winner Sebastien Bourdais has now reached a deal with the Faenza based team to replace Vitantonio Liuzzi from 2008, the Swiss publication Motorsport Aktuell claimed.

28-year-old Bourdais, a Frenchman from Le Mans, will join the already-confirmed German rookie Sebastian Vettel in the team, and plans to relocate from Florida to Europe with his wife Claire and their baby daughter Emma.

Motorsport Aktuell reported that Bourdais was tying up loose ends with his American employer Newman/Haas so that an official announcement could theoretically be made on Wednesday.

Re: F1 Silly Season Rumors!

Silly season in full flow

Aug.13 (GMM) The vague future plans of both Fernando Alonso and Nico Rosberg look set to spice up the 'silly season' as formula one rests in the summer break.

Media reports at the weekend said both drivers could be on the move at the end of the season, with Williams' impressive Rosberg, who is 22 and the son of 1982 world champion Keke, possibly filling the McLaren seat of disgruntled reigning world champion Alonso.

The German newspaper Bild am Sonntag said Rosberg to McLaren, a transfer that would be worth millions of dollars to the German's current employer Sir Frank Williams, is currently a "hot rumour" in formula one circles.

Alonso and BMW-Sauber, meanwhile, are tipped to be interested in each other for 2008; sparking the frenzied attention of the 26-year-old's former manager and Renault boss, Flavio Briatore.

The Spanish newspaper Marca confidently reports that the Italian, who is currently holidaying off the coast of Sardinia, plans to personally meet with Alonso at the upcoming Turkish grand prix.

'Marca' said Briatore was planning to pair Nelson Piquet Jr with Heikki Kovalainen for 2008 "until in his motorhome in Hungary he had the unexpected visit of Luis Garcia Abad", who the current McLaren driver's manager, and also Alonso's father Jose.

The trio subsequently met for a second time at the Hungaroring a little over a week ago, the newspaper added.

Telefonica may back Alonso’s Renault return

- ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER

Spanish telecommunications giant Telefonica has reportedly backed Flavio Briatore’s campaign to reunite Renault with Fernando Alonso.Coinciding with reigning world champion and Spaniard Alonso’s switch to McLaren, the Madrid based company - previously pledging $30m per year to Renault as a major sponsor - left the French team at the end of 2006. But subsequent to reports that the Enstone based outfit’s team principal Briatore is planning a meeting with Alonso in Turkey later this month, the specialist magazine Auto Motor und Sport says Telefonica might be willing to return to Renault if the disgruntled 26-year-old also comes back.
Triple world champion and commentator Niki Lauda told Bild newspaper that he doubts Briatore would fork out the necessary money to re-hire Alonso — unless a big backer like Telefonica can help. In addition to Alonso’s current (US) $27m per year salary, Briatore might also have to foot a multi-million bill to buy out Alonso’s McLaren contract.

“Briatore has never been willing to pay bills of that size,” Austrian legend Lauda noted. (GMM)

Various Formula 1 News

I suggest we start a new topic that we can discuss several F1 news.

I am kicking it off by some speculation about Alonso...

"Alonso might have rejected peace-talks vacation
A McLaren get-together on water
16/08/07 14:18

Fernando Alonso has reportedly turned down an invitation to join his teammate and bosses for a vacation to calm the worsening tension that exists within McLaren.

The reigning World Champion's relationships with Britons Lewis Hamilton and Ron Dennis descended to new lows at the recent Hungarian Grand Prix, sparking speculation that the only solution might be for him to leave the team."

But coinciding with the calendar's current August break, team shareholder and co-founder Mansour Ojjeh invited all of McLaren's major players to the deck of Kogo -- his incredible 72-metre super-yacht.

Championship leader Hamilton is already on board, giving British paparazzi the opportunity last week to photograph him frolicking with Ojjeh's daughter Sara in St. Tropez.

The multi-million dollar yacht, apparently also now occupied by Team Principal Dennis, was to make its way to the Spanish waters of Menorca this week, where Alonso was touted to join the vacation.

The Spanish newspaper Marca, however, claims that the 26-year-old turned down Ojjeh's invitation -- possibly a sign that his association with his Woking-based employer is indeed untenable and irreconcilable.
