Re: ROLLS-ROYCE Picture Thread Here you go Ray :Text & Photos edited by Clinton Deacon Source: Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd. April 10, 2007 Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has announced that a new armoured version of the Phantom will be launched, offering substantial security benefits for those customers that require the highest levels of personal protection. Engineered to VR7 level, the highest current international protection rating, the Phantom Armoured is virtually indistinguishable from the standard version, inside and out. The car features high-tech fibre composites and special purpose steel to provide protection for the bodywork, while the glazed area is constructed from sheets of thickened glass. In addition, a polycarbonate layer is fitted to the inside for extra passenger protection. The Phantom’s aluminium spaceframe chassis and suspension components have been strengthened to cope with the additional weight of the modifications. However, the powertrain remains unchanged, providing 453bhp and a phenomenal 720nm of torque. As well as ballistic security, the new package has been designed to offer the same luxury, refinement and comfort as the standard Rolls-Royce range. Like all Rolls-Royce models the Phantom Armoured begins life at Goodwood, while the special armouring process is carried out off-site by an approved coachbuilder. Customers will be able to order Phantom Armoured from all Rolls-Royce dealers and can tailor every aspect of the car to their own specific requirements. This new model will be available initially in Europe and the Middle East. ![]() BTW Andreas, it seems a Bentley Arnage sneaked into your last post of images ![]()

Re: ROLLS-ROYCE Picture Thread Nice article, Rob. It's interesting that the armouring is done off-site by another coachbuilder. I always thought Rolls-Royce did some armouring in their own factory. Audi, BMW, Mercedes integrate their armouring into the production line. The Phantom is said to be protected to VR7 level, but I wonder if that is just the steel or the entire car. If anyone finds out, please post the information or picture. Also, the car is not indistinguishable. In fact, just look at the window frame of the armoured version above and the normal Phantom below (borrowed this thumbnail from pg. 1). You can see the armouring overlap behind each window. The same goes for most armoured cars. - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER If I need an armoured car, I'll buy something that attracts less attention. I'll just go for a factory-armoured vehicle.

Re: ROLLS-ROYCE Picture Thread This is undoubtedly the best Rolls-Royce for many many decades. It is big, prestigious, sophisticated, high-tech, imposing, and majestic. .....So why don't I love it? I do like it but it's not particularly beautiful and it doesn't have much character.
