Unhappy Issue with my '07 E

I've had my '07 E350 for about 15mos. with really no problems.

Yesterday after I filled the gas with gas, I went into my garage about an hour later and was bowled over with the smell of gasoline. After noting no leakage under the car, in the cabin or trunk, I traced the worst of the odor to the rear driver's side of the interior. The first thing I had done was to pull out of the garage given that a gas water heater was close by. The car was flatbedded to my local dealer. The tow driver noted that he had the same problem with three late model Mercedes, including a V12, just yesterday. He went on to say that this was a common problem.

Anyone have experience with a gas line leak? Gas tank leak?

Re: Issue with my '07 E

Sorry to hear, our 05 E350 has been without major problem so far. Goodluck with it, and I would like to hear more updates about this problem.

Re: Issue with my '07 E

It is very common for E500s to have the gas tank crack on top causing small amounts of fuel to leak out and cause fuel smells in and around the car. But have not seen any 320s or 350s with that same problem.
Could just be the seals around the sending units leaking. These are located under the left and right rear seats. Simple to replace.

Re: Issue with my '07 E

This might have no bearing at all, but my '90 Buick sometimes gets like that when I put a little too much gas in the car, and it overflows (from under) onto the ground. Apperently that's normal.

Re: Issue with my '07 E

We have a '02 E320 Avantgarde and the car has been trouble-free ever since we got it.

I wish you all the best. I hope the problem is fixed soon so that you can enjoy your E-Class again.

Re: Issue with my '07 E - follow-up

The problem turned out to be a crack in one of the two seals. Both seals (the cracked one and the "good" one) were repaired the same day I had it in and was washed and returned to me a few hours later. All the gasoline had to be drained naturally, then placed back in. Except for the pervasive smell for about another day, the car is back to its (great) baseline. Apparently this is not a rare problem.

Thanks to all who responded (Gullwing nailed the problem).
