I have exactly the same opinion. Actually i had to drive a (rented) Clio II, because police had taken my licence plates (stupid parking ticket) and i had to rent a car to drive.
The car was not goog, both quality and driving wise. Hard plastics and boring engine... The new one is very nice. Huge improvement. The first gen was also very very good, and that's why mine has last so much!

Impressive or not, i am planning to replace it sometime in summer. But it's hard to get rid of it. It's a part of my life... I think that i will do my best to keep it...

Incredible. I think the highest mileage I've heard of was around 1 million.

And as you said, it's bound to have even more now.

Re: Singaporean Mercedes 230E (W123) with 1,451,201 km!

My volvo 440 is approaching 190000km, no major problems... i think it will keep going as long as i am ready to spend money to replace mechanical parts as they fail, which may cost more than what the car is worth, which at that point i probably won't be willing to replace parts anymore..

btw people say automatica trannys will have problems after at most 140,000kms, but the ZF auto tranny in the volvo is still pretty good, still as smooth as it was before.

That Singaporean Benz, reminds me of a Greek 1976 Mercedes-Benz 240D Taxi with 4.6 million km that was handed over by the owner to the Mercedes-Benz museum. It's a world record and it's absolutely amazing.

Re: Singaporean Mercedes 230E (W123) with 1,451,201 km!

Our W123 had around an estimated 500000 miles on it before it was officially retired; I say estimated because the car outlasted the odometer which had read around 286000 before it stopped turning. The car went through 3 generations of my family, drove my dad through college, and myself through high school and part of college. It will be missed.
