Re: Best interior: E Class / 5 Series / A6 I have one gripe about the 5er interior! Thay use too much black on the dash panels. I didn`t notice but thay do that on the M5s interior as well. ![]()

Re: Best interior: E Class / 5 Series / A6 5er interior for me please... This is, of course, one of those discussions that is fraught with emotional subjectivity and personal preference as Enilab had pointed out earlier. There is no right or wrong answer, rather, a means by which to describe the emotional appeal from a personal perspective of each one of these interiors. The E-Class interior presents a more mature image courtesy of styling that it closely shares with the CLS. It's a little too classical, too Baroque for my more modern, minimalistic tastes. It's functional, luxurious and elegant for sure but not all that sporting either, even in AMG fettled guise. The A6 interior is one that just doesn't appeal to me from a visual stimuli point of view. I'm in the same boat as Enilab when it comes to the opinion that the A6' interior is conservative and even a little, erm (now don't flame me for this), backward looking. The centre console clutter is very typical of mid 90's approach and the visual interplay between the vents and switchgear comes across as haphazard. In my humble opinion of course... I'm not even going to mention the fact that the profile curve that extends from the instrument cluster cowling, past the MMI screen and down the centre console is so reminiscent of 90's Japanese interior styling, see the Nissan Sentra/Sunny and Subaru Legacy as examples. Oops, I guess I did just mention it! I can see why the BMW interior isn't a favourite. It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination with certain, highly visible panels not coming across as the nth word in quality. That said, the 5er interior appeals to me as the most solid, cohesive whole. I love the relationship and interplay of the curved lines in this interior, some of them briefly parallel before giving way to other, juxtaposed lines. The horizontally partitioned styling theme is a fresh departure from the centre console centric designs of previous german cars. I also like the way that the top curve running over the I-Drive cowling is mirrored by the bottom curve below the compact disc slots. In my eyes, very creative and engaging. All in all, I feel that the BMW interior represents the most successful integration of form, switchgear, vents, slots and displays of the three competitors presented.

Re: Best interior: E Class / 5 Series / A6 The interior of the A6 was the first of a new era for Audi interior design so it's possible to be too complicated as a design. Nevertheless when you are sitting in the driver's seat you feel like being in a fighter jet and that what really makes me love it so much. On the other hand the interior of the Q7 looks even better. ![]() In my opinion one of the best in the auto industry right now.

Re: Best interior: E Class / 5 Series / A6 i think the e-class has the best interior, the dash on all three cars is so good looking, but e-class is a bit better for me,and i don't like the interior side profiles of the a6 and 5series. just look at this man ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Best interior: E Class / 5 Series / A6 With all the unuaual shapes BMW used on the 5er`s dash I don`t think thay could use a single color like beige for example to cover the entire dash. That would look terrible!

![]() Of course these opinions are all subjective and although the BMW is my least favourite, I do most certainly understand what the intention of the design is....and it is by far the most adventurous, it's also very clever - it's interesting however, that several people have said how the Audi's interior looks so 1990's - one could argue it looks 80's or even 70's too - it is a continuum of a formal, rationalist, German design language that both Mercedes and BMW have now abandoned in favour of more expressive and short-term stying trends. The German designer Dieter Rams was responsible for the "look" of Braun products over several decades - this is the formal design language that has it's roots in the Bauhaus and Ulm schools - the focus is on clarity, function, and a sense of timelessness - this is the same formal design language that Audi employs. I know you guys are all very clear on this - but I really want to post some examples of other objects that show a similar design philosophy to Audi's. Table light designed by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen in 1956...and Braun cigarette lighter designed by Dieter Rams in 1968. ![]() ![]() Leica M3 35mm-rangefinder camera 1954 ![]() Hugo Pott Cutlery Model 22 (1956), Model 32 (1973), and Model 33 (1976) designed by Carl Pott ![]() ![]() ![]() Ashtray designed in 1973 by Peter Holmblad for Stelton. ![]() Arne Jacobsen teapot from 1967 ![]() Chairs designed by Poul Kjaerholm 1957 and 1997 ![]() One misconception about this Modern design language is that it is unable to be expressive or interesting - this is simply untrue. Modernism is not over ....it's certainly not dead. B&O Beosound 3200 from 1990's ![]() ![]() Pillbox designed by Designit for Stelton 2006 ![]() ![]() Fortebraccio light designed by Alberto Meda and Paolo Rizzatto 1998 ![]() ![]() Larus chaise-longue from Poltrona Frau 2001 ![]() Fjord Chair designed by Patricia Urquiola in 2002 ![]() Pingo Coffee Flask designed by John Sebastian for Stelton 2005 ![]() ![]() ![]() Porsche also adheres to the Teutonic functionalist approach to design. ![]() Last edited by SDNR; 04-19-2006 at 02:01 AM.. | |
