Windows Vista

So how many of you have tried it out and what are your actual opinions?

I feel its exorbitently priced @ US$400. I friend of mine just got back from Singapore and bout it of the street for US$1. I tried it out on my pc its very appealing in the visual sense, but i dont really sea that much of a difference. Its probably very similair to the mac OSX visually, however i would never pay 400 bucks for it, alteast not now.

Your opinions?

btw, lol, just had to post this:

Re: Windows Vista

I've not used it, yet, but a pal has & he didn't like it. Apparently, it has waaaaaaaaaay too many warnings when you want to do stuff.

My pal just bought a Mac...I'll probably not be far behind him the more I see the Mac...

Re: Windows Vista

I've used it before. I don't currently have it on my machine but I was on their Release Canditate testers program. So I've tried it. It's not that hard to get used to, it's basically XP that's even better. How much better? only time will tell. The new Aeroes interface is very slick. I know a whole bunch of Mac guys will jump on that and say "But mac had it first" well to be honest, Linux distros have been doing it before macs so lets drop that argument.

Anyways, if you're used to XP then you shouldn't really have trouble with this. Like Alex said, it will take a little getting used to but then again you have to understand it is new and all those warnings are there for those who want more protection. Not everyone in this world is computer literate, thats why so many people get viruses, but honestly nowadays you really have to be do something stupid to catch a virus. All the warnings and safety features are for those folks who use their computers for normal things like email or homework, so for those who are power users can just turn it off. I'm not a Windows fanboy but I like my games and the fact that I can basically build my machine however I want to and upgrade whenever I want to...That is why I'd never buy a mac. I've used a G5 in my animations classes but I'd never buy it.

So in my opinion, hold out on Vista if you can but I will tell you to at least try it out before you go jumping on a Mac. If all you need is casual computer use then mac and pc are both fine, just install a virus/malware checker on the pc and you're good to go. If you're a gamer, don't even think about the mac, with Direct-X 10 coming out...gaming on the pc just got a whole lot better (or so they say.)

Re: Windows Vista

Don't see the need to upgrade. As it is much heavier OS than XP it will be slower as well. A few graphic redesigns won't be enough to convince me. The security won't be that much better in the end either...

I don't play games on my computer so I might be trying Mac or Linux in the near future.

Re: Windows Vista

I don't see myself getting it anytime soon. I'll let them iron out the inevitable bugs first.

Re: Windows Vista

I will probably get my self a illegal copy of it to see what it's all about. I want the 64-bit version and hopefully it will offer better performance compared with the 32bit XP home I'm currently using.
Most people have been a bit too harsh on Vista. There are many BMW(bitchers, moaners & whiners) who have been bashing the beta versions of Vista, eventhough they aren't the final versions.
