Re: CLS 55 vs. M5 (Australian Motor Magazine Comparison Test)

I can't see the article.

Matt, Motor Magazine in the past used to have wet dreams over anything BMW touched by the M house.

What seems to be their complaints about the M5? What was the outcome of the comparison here?

Re: CLS 55 vs. M5 (Australian Motor Magazine Comparison Test)

Well, they dont think the M5 is an easy car to drive at slower speeds with SMG III. They think its the best track car and is the fastest but for day to day driving they would rather drive the CLS 55 AMG. They also think the HSV was out classed by the two germans.

So ultimately I think the favorite was the CLS in terms of looks and torque. They dont seem to like how the M5 revs so high. They also call it an ugly car. So thats the verdict. The CLS 55.

Re: CLS 55 vs. M5 (Australian Motor Magazine Comparison Test)

Ahh ok thanks. I've never driven an SMG car, so I know crap all about the transmissions lol.

It's funny how they always compare the HSV's to these fine Germans. A couple of years back a few of the magazines actually went on about how the HSV's were sooo close to the germans, but 1/2 the price.

CLS55 has a sick interior, the new 63 will be interesting when up pitted against the M5, can't wait to see what happens then.

Re: CLS 55 vs. M5 (Australian Motor Magazine Comparison Test)

I think the M5 might be out classed with new 63 engines...... But I still dont think they will be able to compete in the handling department. when the E55 AMG came out it was much quicker but wasn't as good as a racer as the E39 M5 because of handling. I think.....

While AMG is going all out in the engine deparment, I really hope they pay more attention to dynamics, if only for the sake of winning more comparison tests.

Well the CLS was that much better than the E class so I'm sure the next E63 will have stiffened suspension more handling oriented.

They most definately should, they have been lacking greatly in this department as of late. It seems though, w/ the SLK55 AMG that they're starting to get it, or so I've heard...
