YIKES!!!! There goes my bank account...anyone need a used Canon 20D.

WOW notic...this is either the best rumor presentation I have ever read or it is what will make current 1.6 crop lovers rejoice (like me.) Great features but the price will probably be around $1500 US, body only.

I wonder if this will be released at Photokina?

Thanks for the posting.

Doing some more looking and this is a replacement for the 350D and not the 20D/30D pro models. It is a smaller, lighter build camera than my 20D, although has some nice features. These new features of self cleaning and such will probably be on the upcoming 40D (?) maybe sometime in 2007.

Re: Canon EOS 400D

This is definitely a response to Nikon's D50 and D80. However, I would prefer the D80 over this because of the features the D80 has from the D200.

The D80 has an 11 point auto focus sytem rather than the 9 found on this Canon. However, I like the integration of the dust remover.

Nikon is trying but Canon prevails... Sounds like a MB/BMW discussion... Have to add the new 17-55mm to the stable...

Re: Canon EOS 400D

Nevadajack I won't being an immature argument with you about who is better. I basically said what I prefer, I did not say who is better.

Both Nikon and Canon are very good manufacturers of DSLR cameras. I have respect for Canon and would definitely buy one. I am actually considering this 400D because for the price nothing can beat it.

Does anyone know the fps for this camera?
Ah found it! It is 3 fps. That is good, but this camera really competes with the D80 rather than the D50. The D50 is a competitor for the 350D, or at least it was for sometime and/or was the intention of Nikon. However, now we see the new 400D out due the D50 by more than it did in the past. So, where does this leave us? The 400D has completely leaped the D50 and D70s(which in my opinion is being replaced by the D80).

Relax...I was not trying to start an "immature argument" with who is better. Big grins mean just that. Both are quality cameras and both have their fans.

The fps on the 400D is reportedly 3.

Jack, if the FPS was 3.5 I would jump on it without thinking abot it. That is how good the Canon is. The one thing I have never really liked about Canon is the lack of durability. You know? I am talking about the feel of the camera.

I like this 400D a lot. You have a 30D? or 20D?

My apologies for the immature comment. I just thought it was going to start a war, which I did not want to see. Either way, it doesn't matter. My apologies once again dear sir

Price I would think will be below $1K with some sort of lens (18-55mm kit?)

Well I read in the official press release-at least I think it was official because I clicked on it--that the price is going to be lower than the 350D when it came out. So, the body will be around $799 US. If you put that into perspective Canon is marketing the camera just right. Think about it. Why would one want to go with the Nikon D50 now? The A100 from Sony is always placed a little higher in the price range, even though it is a few hundred more. The same goes with the D80.

Canon has a good camera here, but I dream of a camera like this that has 4-5fps. That would be good. I highly doubt we will see one for a while though, because until the pro DSLR do not go up in fps, we won't see an upping on the lower division cameras.
