New C-Class coming with Bluetec in North america?

Hi I was wondering if Mercedes is going to bring the bluetec or cdi in its c-class to north american market? I know there not going to bring it out when in 2007 but you think maybe late 2008 or early 2009, north america will see a diesel in the new c-class?

any thoughts?

I 'm quite certain that every Mercedes model will be also offered as a diesel in US but i don't know any details about the time.

Re: New C-Class coming with Bluetec in North america?

Welcome to GCZ.

I've not heard anything about a diesel C-Class being prepared for the US market, but I wouldn't discount the possibility. The regular E320 CDI has done remarkably well in the US and Americans seem more open to diesels than ever before. Now is the time to bring diesels over and DCX knows this, for sure.

It wouldn't surprise me if we're going to see a C320 CDI Bluetec in the US at some point. Hopefully soon.

When Mercedes brings the diesel (C320 CDI or Bluetec) into the north american market, do you guys believe that the c320 cdi will be offered in manual or automatic transmissions or both for that market?

anyone have a clue?

Automatic definitely. To certify a manual for such a small volume version wouldn't be cost wise. As you see they've seemingly already given up on a manual for the C350 so the diesel is out of the question for a manual.

aww that really sucks because i was really hoping to buy the c-class diesel in manual..Looks like the auto will have to do, unless if bmw brings their diesel into the 3 series. I know their bringing the diesel here but they probably will put it in their x5 or/and x3....but i really dont think i can say no to a benz...im so confused..lol

In Europe, every W204 C-Class, except the C350 and C63 AMG, is offered with a manual as standard. For America, probably not. The US-spec C350 won't have a manual (as will the European) and a potential C320 CDI Bluetec for the US will definitely NOT have a manual.

You're not missing much either because on the old W203 C320 CDI, the 6-speed manual version had to have its torque detuned and was much slower to 100 km/h than the automatic. The A/T C320 CDI W203 could reach 100 km/h from a standstill in about 6.7 seconds - the manual needed over 8 seconds because of the detuned torque.

Stick with the 7Gtronic and you'll have more fun, trust me.

Here's my A/T C320 CDI review BTW.

Re: New C-Class coming with Bluetec in North america?

Mercedes Benz will be displaying its Vision C 220 BLUETEC in Geneva, the first four-cylinder model to feature the ultra-clean diesel technology. Like its previous Vision GL420 SUV that was shown at last month’s Detroit Auto Show, the new Vision C 220 gives a glimpse of diesel powertrains of the future. It’s already in compliance with strict EURO 6 emission standards that are applicable to all new vehicles Europe-wide from 2015 and with an output of 170hp (125kW) and a peak torque of 400 Nm, the sedan only requires 5.5L of diesel per hundred kilometres.

112875807c250_01.jpgFollowing the US launch of BLUETEC technology, Mercedes is preparing to launch the range in other markets. The technology is currently being adapted to European market requirements and further Mercedes Benz models, the aim being to also offer BLUETEC in passenger cars for European customers, starting in 2008. The technology in the Vision C 220 includes an oxidising catalytic converter, which reduces emissions of carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons, as well as a particulate filter.

The standard C-Class already reduced CO2 emissions by up to 15% over the former model, and with the introduction of a BLUETEC model, the new C is shaping up to be one of the cleanest vehicles around.

Re: New C-Class coming with Bluetec in North america?

On a side note, my last Auto Motor und Sport said that the next generation '220 CDI diesel engine will produce over 200-horsepower. Great "entry level" car I suppose.
