My dad is also tall - about 1.96 metres! He has no problems with the R170 and R171 SLK and he also has no problems by driving a BMW Z4! Only the Porsche Boxster is to small for him...

He doesn't drive one... ...so, here is the short story about buying a new car:

Before we bought the E 280 CDI, we made some testdrives! First of all my father wanted to get a SLK 350, but then we made a testdrive with a BMW Z4 3.0i! My father was absolutely enthusiastic about this car - so we want to go for a Z4 Individual () - but the dealer was a bit to enthusiastic and offered my dad an absolutely ugly, used Z4 (black/black and the interior was dusted)!
So we considered which cars could be also interesting. Because my father is driving a lot (especially at autobahns), I offered him my idea about buying a diesel (Nevertheless a convertible would have been great... )!
So, I compilated an E-Class for my dad (My dad changed some options, but who cares?!) and we went to our Mercedes dealer...

Oh sweet stuff. But from convertibles to a sedan, quite a change eh! I guess he's happy with the E-Class now anyway.

He is happy with his sedan and especially delighted by the diesel engine. He also enjoys the space of the cabin (SLK to E-Class ) and bother himself, that he doesn't go for an automatic transmission...

Great car! it's still one of the best looking Roadsters out there. It's sad that the build quality of the interior is at some Z4s not BMW standard - nevertheless the sound ouf the 6-cylinder engine recompense for this.
