It's drivable - like all BMW concepts.

Yet it's a design study - showcasing design elements not some new technical solutions (engine, gearbox, suspension etc).

Btw, I posted a link to a movie clip in the official CS thread.

I hope I haven't stirred any rage feeling on the folks in this thread...specially the Bimmer fans.

You haven't. I for one think the CLS 63 AMG is the best looking MB in the whole lineup. The only thing I find ridiculous is the fact that they call the car a 4 door coupe. No such thing exists. A coupe has by definition 2 doors. It's a sedan with coupe elements maybe. I bashed the name, not the car.

Re: BMW Concept CS [Hi-res]

The car looks so much better with no vertical bars in kidney grille.

Yet ... there will be different inner part of kidney grille solutions on production vehicles. Some models will come with mesh only, some will have the bars pushed far back, some will have bars more in the front ...

I like the following solution the most (was a proposal, not sure if it will be featured on production vehicle - it was the new F13 6er):

the bars went from upper edge of outer kidney shell to lower edge of inner shell - diagonally from front to back.

So the upper part of bars was visual, while the lower part was almost hidden in the shadow. The kidney looked like having shark-like teeth. A bit over-aggressive, but I liked it. Perhaps some other more aggressive model not new 6er will get such solution.

Also this solution makes the nose very similar to original E24 6er - with forward pushed shark-like nose.

I hope it will be feature on F13/14 after all.

BMW and Porsche are the most "Italian" German brands if you know what I mean.

They're never boring...just like the Italians. But then again Sono polarizzato per dire questo.

Moreover, there's a difference, a big one, between the CS concept and CLS. The CLS is positioned between E and S and this one will be positioned between 7er and RR, the flagships of BMW. Big difference if you ask me.

I entirely agree with you about the sheer absurdity about the "Four-door-Coupé" term.

I mean, it's not the first time a manufacturer makes a Coupé-shaped saloon car and calls it a Coupé.

Back in 1965 there was the Rover P5 Coupé.

But even back then, Rover wasn't stupid to call it "4-door Coupé". They just called it Coupé, because of the sleeker roofline in the back (compared to the saloon model), which indeed gave the P5 a Coupé look to it. It still was a saloon car, only with a sportier styling.

As much I am a Mercedes fan and I adore the CLS, I will concede that Mercedes is stupid for advertising as the "World's first four-door Coupé".

What about the Mazda RX-8 launched in 2003?

Mazda could advertise the RX-8 as a 4-door Coupé, but in the end it would sound absurd, so they didn't risk to do it.

Re: BMW Concept CS [Hi-res]

THis 4door coupe thing is so hard to argue. I think we should put it this way. If it has suicide door/mini doors at the end, then I guess I can let it be called a 4 door coupe (even though that is still an oxymoron). But if it has a 4 full sized door, then obviously, it's a sedan... because that's what makes a sedan.

Re: BMW Concept CS [Hi-res]

Actually I wish it has 4 normal doors with frames so that wind noise is minimized. Frameless doors are really unpractical and noisy & wouldn't improve anything in the looks department IMO.
