| GM planning dual-clutch gearbox for C7 Corvette? - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER More details about GM’s future plans have emerged from the last week’s release of official documents by the UAW outlining plant allocations for its new products. Earlier today - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER that GM is yet to designate a brand for its upcoming Volt plug-in hybrid and now we have news the General could introduce dual-clutch transmissions for the next-generation Corvette due in 2012 and possibly a facelifted Cadillac CTS due around the same time. One of the posters on - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER noticed the statement “RWD DCT for NG Corvette will be allocated (2012)” printed on page 69 of one of the documents detailing plans for GM’s Toledo plant. We’d be very surprised if GM was still without a dual-clutch transmission within the next year or two considering most rivals are already planning the roll-out of the superior gearboxes, so an introduction on the Corvette is highly likely. As for the new C7, rumors on this car are rife with some suggesting power levels above 600hp for the top end models and some even suggesting a mid-engine layout. Though we’re highly doubtful of some of these claims we do know engineers are focusing on drivetrain and weight distribution for the new model, as revealed by GM’s VP of global product development Jim Queen earlier in the year. | Re: GM planning dual-clutch gearbox for C7 Corvette? - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER Posted on Wednesday 3 October 2007 - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER Information revealed yesterday in a UAW document outlined GM’s plans to install - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER in the C7 Corvette and now we have reports that it might feature an AWD system as well. GM and Sweden’s Haldex have developed a new performance AWD system called - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER that debuted in the facelifted Saab 9-3. The AWD system features an electronic differential and can send up to 85% of torque to an individual wheel to prevent slippage, whether it’s from a fast corner or when trying to put power to the ground. Engineers at a Haldex plant in Sweden were recently spotted working on a new GM prototype with a rear-track much wider than that of any current Saab and this is thought to be a test-mule for the next-generation Corvette. A new Haldex facility being set-up in Mexico could soon see development of the AWD Corvette prototype head to North America. GM hasn’t revealed any official details about the next Corvette apart from the fact that it will retain the front-engine layout. According to parts suppliers, a mid-engine layout was ruled out because of the costs involved in developing such a car. Developers are instead looking at AWD traction to improve the Corvette’s track performance. We already know what it’s capable of with just RWD. Now imagine what an AWD Corvette with more than 600hp could do to the competition. ![]() |
