My Half-Hour with the V10 Audi S6

Today, we received a 2006 Sprint Blue S6 at the dealership. What a car! It is beautifully understated, yet muscular and brutal at the same time. There are no wild body kits, fender flares, or rear spoilers- instead you are treated to subtle pieces of classic Audi detailing, like the quad-tailpipes, to the metal-look mirror housings and front LEDs that make this car simply stunning in the metal.

The interior, to sum it up in one word, is beautiful. Swathes of leather, carbon-fibre trim, alloy MMI/HVAC controls and paddles, and incredibly supportive Recaro seats. This model comes with almost everything one could need in a car, from the DVD based Sat-Nav, to the Advanced Key system, Electric Sunroof, and Xenon Plus Adaptive Headlights. Press and hold the start button (or turn the key!) and the 10-cylinder burbles into life. As you pull away, it is as smooth as an A6 2.0 TFSI, and just as easy to drive at 50km/h (though my only criticism of the whole car is that the tiptronic is a bit jerky at lower speeds). Nail the throttle, and it doesn’t really break your neck, but rather squashes you with a beautifully linear, progressive wave of torque. The bark of the engine is also something to behold- a ferocity that a V8 can’t match.

This car gathers speed so easily, and wipes it off with the same efficiency due to the monstorous brakes beneath the 19” alloys. It may not be as quick on paper as the E63 or the M5 (but what is 0.5 of a second in real terms anyway?) but to me at least, the total package adds up to one magical motor vehicle. It is also about $20,000 cheaper in Australia.

Enjoy some of the photos below. I also have a sound clip, but don’t know how to host it. Any ideas?
