***The Mayor of Mühldorf drives an...***

Audi A6 TDI

Not sure which engine, but I've heard it drive past me a few times and it is a diesel, probably something smaller than the rather quiet 3.0 TDI.

The license plate stands for:

= Mühldorf am Inn
BM = Bürgermeister (Mayor)
100 = Probably the age he wants to reach...

Nice car, but he obviously can't park.

Btw, do plates like that cost extra in Germany?

Well the "Mü" part is standard if you live here. Someone from Hamburg would be "HH" while a Berliner would be "B". So basically, it depends where you live in Germany. Munich is "M", Nürnberg is "N" etc.

The second letters in this case, BM, can be chosen by the owner of the car. For example, the license plate of my dad's 500SL is EC 888. My dad's name is Erich and he thought it would be cool if the license plate basically said "Erich+Christian". The three 8's are some good luck number in Chinese I believe. My dad was fascinated with Chinese culture and their superstitions.

You can do that in Finland too, but the government charges €1,000 for the privilege.

Here in Mühldorf, my dad paid € 25 for his 500SL license plate.

Same for the E320.

Nice car...crap parking job. In india every license plate startes with the 2 letters that represent the state they are from. ex. DL for Delhi, HR for Haryana, UP for Utter Pradesh, etc... the rest of the numbers? I have no idea LOL

Too bad in the US we have nothing of the sort. In California most of the cars just have 7 alphanumeric digits while in states like Washington it's 3 alphanumeric digits then dash "-" and then another 3 alphanumeric digits...ex 747-253.

Well, the major of Patra (my city) drives a Volvo S60, but he has it in an awful light green exterior colour. Other than that, same trim level, interior and rims with mine

Or maybe 100 stands for how much horsepower the engine in his Audi produce or who knows...maybe it's his real age.

You guys won't want to know how much we pay for premium plates. Number plates with single digits (especially with the number 1) can go for US60k or more. Yes it isn't a typo. That's why people can do business selling plates... And no, we can't choose our alphabets nor numbers.

As for us, well Chris is right, 8 is a lucky number. My dad has 9918 and 718 for his cars. We got them cheap though, just about US450...

Our Mayor (Prime Minister, we call him that here) drives a conspicuous S350... Though I'm not quite sure if he has others for non-official events.

Well shewt. He is the mayor, now isn't he? I think that's one of the luxuries that comes along with being Burgermiester - carte blanche on bad parking.
