Does A5 really deserve to wear separate (A5) label?

So, it's now evident new B8 A4 looks very similar to A5. So does A5 really deserves to wear separate A5 badge, or should it be more fair to be labeled as A4 coupe?

Your opinion?

Re: Does A5 really deserve to wear separate (A5) label?

just don't think that the A5 is different at all ! Not only the exterior, but if you consider the interior as well, its practically identical. I expected more out of AUDI in terms of design differentiation...

Re: Does A5 really deserve to wear separate (A5) label?

Request: please swap the two frontal views around so that it's A4 above A4 and A5 above A5. (Clever ploy Eni, but you can't fool us...)

Opinion: Whilst it can be argued that the current Audi design language is mature and cohesive to the point of monotony, I believe that the trick in appreciating the model differentiation in the Audi range is to look beyond the detail styling elements and view the cars as single, complete articles in the holistic sense.

In my rudimentary appreciation of the marque I have to admit that, despite the repetitive use of detail styling elements, an Audi A8 looks nothing like an A6 which looks nothing like an A4 which, in turn, looks nothing like an A5. The silhouettes, proportions and basic shapes are very different. In my opinion an A5 actually doesn't look like a two door A4, whereas an E92 very much does look like a 2 door E90... if you get my drift.

So, by the same token as the title of this thread I could ask the same question: "Shouldn't the X6 be called the X5 Coupe?" ... or rather X5 Slanty-Bum ;D

Excellent point my friend! By the way, thanks for the straight on head shot of the A4 EnI, very aggresive looking for a known S/RS model!

Martin, pics are randomly put there.

Regarding E90 vs E92. If you think E92 looks just like a 2dr version of E90 you must be blind. Yes, in E46 case that was true. But in E90 vs E92 that's not the case. Yet still both cars are labeled as 3-series.

Regarding X5 vs. X6 ... Let's wait till X6 is officially presented, and then I'll be delighted to open similar poll if necessary.

******

Regarding A4 vs A5: IMO it would be better A5 came with A4 coupe label. I have the same feeling for the X6 (X5 coupe).

Re: Does A5 really deserve to wear separate (A5) label?

Well now, it would be grossly inappropriate if people went around saying "It's just a bloody 3er Coupe after all - so BMW ought to call it the 340i Sport!"

We car fans prefer the idea of an M3, because we have an appreciation of what's underneath.

Similarly, if Audi deem the A5 to special enough (it is) to be given its own moniker, then who are we to argue. I think its more than adequately differentiated from its quite clearly less exclusive family saloon sibling.

A4 Coupe is logical only to the most blinkered of anti-Audi lobbyists.

As then are you too for not seeing the larger-than-an-elephants ball difference between an A4 and an A5. Sheesh - C350, CLK 350 why not pick on them too?

My point here is this Eni, I am firmly convinced that an E92 looks more similar to the E90, than an A5 looks to an A4.

Re: Does A5 really deserve to wear separate (A5) label?

I honestly think this is one of the most pointless polls ever; it is not up to us to decide what Audi (or any other manufacturer) calls their models. But to answer the question: there is a clear differentation between the two models, one that is obvious even to those who are not into cars. Car fans will know the A5's relation to the A4 and no one else will care.

The last line a bit insulting, don't you think?

Who are you to judge, after all?

Regarding A5 specialness: I'm eagerly awaiting official A3 cabrio & A6 FL photos.
