Upcoming A4 engines?

Now there are only two petrol engines (1.8 TFSI & 3.2 FSI) and three diesels (2.0 TDI, 2.7 TDI & 3.0 TDI). Is there any reliable information about engines that will be added in the near future?

Re: Upcoming A4 engines?

Will there be a 1.6 petrol engine like the B6 and B7 had, or the new entry level will be the 1.8??

I'm certain it's coming. I expect the VAG group to announce a power hike for the engine shortly and that's why it wasn't in the original line-up.

In fact, I see the 2.0T engine as being the mainstay of the petrol line-up and it will have to compete with the 325i / C280 brigade - so I expect that uprated output should be around the 165 kW & 310 Nm mark.

Re: Upcoming A4 engines?

Yannis, is there a 2.8 V6 FSI coming?

Yet another strange engine overlap in the A4 range; remember how the 1.8T overlapped with the old 2.4 V6 engine in terms of performance but was substantially cheaper?

I reckon the uprated 2.0 TFSI engine is good for 165 kW and up to 320 Nm, a 2.8 V6 FSI will put out in the range of 180 kW at best and 290 Nm. I can almost guarantee that the 2.0T will be the more sprightly performer just as was the case with the 1.8T vs the 2.4 V6.

Martin it's the same engine that has been intoduced in A6 and A8:

As for the overlaping you are right. The 2.0 TFSI focuses more on performance while the 2.8 focuses more on fuel consumption and smooth operation.

Is there such an engine in the pipeline or is this only according to the rumour mill?

Again, such an engine would be perilously close to the 344 bhp S4 V8 and it'd probably match it for torque too... Which means that the S4 / S5 need another power hike in their own right and then the next gen RS4 needs to be more powerful still and and... phew, this is a never ending story these days isn't it?
