So, the next gen S4 will get the same engine as the current S5, which is the same as in the B6 S4, right? Shame Audi does not make next gen RS4 + RS5 with a new engine, but then again, the engine of the current RS4 is brilliant! I was almost hoping that next gen S4 would get todays RS4 engine =)

Saw the S5 today in bright silver, I just found myself standing there staring. That body really needs a bright color in order to make it show just how great it is!

When is the last time a car was lighter than the previous model?

Update!!!

Updated: It appears the initial report by Autocar, which stated that Audi would be ceasing production of the RS4 in the near future, is likely to have been greatly exaggerated. Audi’s Media Relations and Motorsport Specialist Patrick Hespen has revealed to Winding Road that the claims are untrue and that the RS4 will continue well into 2008.

Original: Audi’s V8-powered RS4 saloon may already be out of production to make way for the RS6, which is expected to hit Frankfurt auto show in September. The RS4 has been widely regarded as one of the best Audi sports cars ever made and even managed to beat the old M3 in most back-to-back comparison tests.

With the new M3 coupe on the way and a saloon version also in late stages of testing, this is a strange time for Audi to end production for the RS4. According to the report by UK’s Autocar, the Avant and cabrio models will remain in production, but there’s no word on how long before these models also get canned.

The decision that the RS4 could cannabalise sales of a RS6 seems iffy, not least because of the massive price gap that should separate the two models.

Re: End of the line for the RS4 saloon?

Although I'm looking forward to the new RS4, I find it very difficult to imagine any car that would be as perfect as the B7 RS4. It is just perfect.

Re: End of the line for the RS4 saloon?

The next RS4/RS5 are rumored to have a lightly turbocharged version of the V8 4.2 lt with 450-480 hp output.

Re: End of the line for the RS4 saloon?

According to an official Audi press release, the RS4 (all variants) will remain in production until 2008. Rest easy guys.

Re: End of the line for the RS4 saloon?

Audi RS4: New version coming in 2008? Bringing 450 bhp?

We found sources saying that the next-gen Audi RS4 might come as early as end of 2008, bringing 450 bhp with it. Well, we have our doubts, because usually RS models are introduced much after the ordinary versions.
Now for more good news: Audi wants 450 horsepower for the next RS4, despite tightened European CO2 standards. That challenges BMW, which worked to get 420 horses out of its new M3 V-8, up from an expected 400. Mercedes-Benz is in this game too, with its C63 AMG (see horsepower in our "First Drive" story, page 70). The next RS4 will bow at least a year after the new A4-or fall of 2008 at the earliest.
