Porsche 997 Hits 100,000 Mark (Faster Than Any 911 Before)

Porsche 911 hits 100,000 mark

Porsche has built its 100,000th version of the current 911, known to Porsche enthusiasts and insiders as the 997. The 997 has hit the 100,000 mark faster than any of its 911 predecessors.

The 100,00th car, a Guards Red Carrera S 6-speed manual, is headed to a customer in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Porsche's Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen facility started production of the 997 in April 2004. The automaker expects to reach another milestone at the end of this month: a record 36,000 997s produced in fiscal year 2006/07.

No surprise here. The market for such vehicles is no longer exclusive.

Congrats Porsche!

Re: Porsche 997 Hits 100,000 Mark (Faster Than Any 911 Before)

Official press release....

Porsche 911 (997) Production Milestone

100,000 units in just over 3 years
Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany, is enjoying another high in the success story of its 911: a little over three years since production started in April 2004, the 100,000th vehicle in the current Eleven series (Type 997) has rolled off the production line at the company’s main plant in Zuffenhausen. Porsche has been manufacturing the 911 since 1963, but never in all that time have so many of these sports cars been produced so quickly as with the sixth generation. The “record” Eleven, a guards red Carrera S with manual gearbox, is to be delivered to a customer in the Frankfurt/Main area within the next few days.

Over the past 40 years or so, the 911 has become the quintessential sports car. From fall 2007, a total of 16 different Eleven models will leave the production line in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen alongside the newly unveiled 911 Turbo Cabriolet and the racing derivatives, the 911 GT3 Cup and the 911 GT3 RSR. By July 31, the end of the 2006/2007 fiscal year, Porsche will have placed around 36,000 units from the 911 series on the global market – yet another record in the history of the Eleven.

Re: Porsche 997 Hits 100,000 Mark (Faster Than Any 911 Before)

Considering how many 911s I see, I'm not surprised!

It's great how Porsche is quite a 'common' car brand, but it's still special to see one!
