Intruders get access to Tony Blair’s BMW

If you’re dropping over one hundred grand on an armored vehicle you’d expect at least minimal security for the vehicle while it was being transported. After all, if a group of four asylum seekers could get to the car unscathed as in this next story, then it means virtually anyone could tamper with it before it arrives. That’s what happened in the case of an armored BMW 7-series that was destined to be delivered to former British PM Tony Blair. Four asylum seekers managed to break into a truck carrying the vehicle while it was traveling in northern France.

Unfortunately for the asylum seekers, the truck’s final destination was a police compound. Upon exiting the truck, all four of the travelers were immediately arrested. Luckily the car and stowaways didn’t experience the same treatment as the armored Mercedes in this video.

According to a report in The Sun, both BMW and British security personnel were shocked and embarrassed that the security systems in place were so flawed. One of the police officers admitted to the source that the event “made a mockery of Britain’s security.” '

It was not the car's security that failed but the security personnel.
It was the truck carrying the BMW that was stolen by the four asylum seekers.
If I read it correctly, they didn not managed to break in the BMW but instead the truck carrying the PM Blair's armoured car.
So BMW did not fail at all in the car's case, the BMW's and British human security for the transport of the PM's new BMW however did fail.

I bet the four asylum seekers could forget the chance now of ever getting an asylum or permission for a longer stay.
Even though if the BMW was stolen and lost, it's easy to track the car anyway since highly amoured cars always have GPS tracking system in it.

Re: Intruders get access to Tony Blair’s BMW

Any pictures? When did he get an armoured BMW? I thought he had an armoured Jag when he was PM. Why does he get an even stronger armoured car now?

Was that Jag his own or related to his position? He might need one as he's now the Envoy for the Quartet on the Middle East.

The Jag was a government car. Gordon Brown should have it now.

Is this BMW Blair's personal vehicle? I doubt it. Someone must be paying for his car and his huge security team. I think the BMW he has now is a more heavily armoured car than the Jag.

But why? Volvo has an armoured model of the S80. It is arguably just as safe as the BMW. It is done by O'Gara, which has worked on the presidential limousines since the 1960s.
