What the M5 does to a 16 year old

If I remember right he's 16 or at least close to it... You get the point.

A member from Qatar on Fast-Autos who've driven some very nice cars thanks to his wealthy family now got to drive an E60 M5. Here's what he said:

My uncles don’t seem to have a problem with it and they let me drive their cars when I ask them to. Anyway this friend brought an M5 home it belongs to his friend and he lend it to him for a day.

Here is the thing, I drove an E55 AMG and a CLS55 AMG and I thought they were great. You don’t understand what torque is until you floor it in an AMG. You get a great kick in the back and the speed increases amazingly fast. But the driving the M5 today made me change my mind about M cars. I don’t care how an SL65 AMG goes or how it feels to drive, an M5 or M6 blows your mind more than any car AMG made.

When you hold the steering wheel in the M5, you feel every vibration in the car and you feel any single **** thing that happens to the car. The car is so stable on the road at any speed and the sound tingles your spine and impresses your ears. It’s not that loud but it’s a nice sound, Like an F1 car. The gearchanges when it’s in Automatic are very slow and it hurts your head and neck whilst changing. You can’t just get in and drive, you have to set everything to how you want it to be. I think you can save all the options on the M-button and when you press it, it turns your saved settings.

My friend save the best settings on the M-button and when you press it, everything changes. You get a head-up display telling you what gear you’re in and what speed you’re going. You could never feel the true pleasure of driving until you’re in an M-Powered car. An AMG car can make you hear it’s sound echo through your ears when you’re not in the car but, an M-Powered car makes you imagine you’re driving the car when not in it. Any chair you sit on, you think it’s an M5 and you wonder why doesn’t this chair have a bolster that holds you in the bends. Let me just say "Doesn't matter what you've got doesn't matter what you've ever driven, this is quicker, it's faster, it's more astonishing" (Jeremy Clarkson). He couldn’t express how good it is.

Nice read. It's nice that he got to drive the car but I'll take what he says with a grain of salt. He just drove the M5 and all of a sudden both the M5 and M6 is better than ALL AMG cars. Right. But it's good to know there are some lucky kids out there with no experience on proper driving dynamics giving reviews on cars...LOL

Yeah, it was probobly mostly his excitement talking and after all, he hasn't driven all AMG cars. The nicest car he's driven is the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti so he does have something pretty good to compare to. But he's still very young and as said, alot of that post is pure excitement.

I remember when I was 14 and first floored my dad's 140hp V70 and it pushed me back into the seat and I smiled so much He has 170hp now and I don't get quite that excited anymore.

Re: What the M5 does to a 16 year old

Since we're on the subject...I was a passenger in a Saturn once when I was 10 or 11 years old. My cousin stepped on the gas and I was thrown back. Since then my impression of Saturn was "Damn, those cars have lots of power". But when I finally started learning more about cars and actually started driving at 12 I was like..."damn i'm stupid, I thought that car was fast.." LOL But given, the new Saturn Sky roadster (a la Opel) is hot!

That kid is purely excited. I don't care what car he has driven, he doesn't yet have experience pushing cars to the max. Just stepping on it or something like that and fiddling with the controls is not a way to say that a certain car is better than something else. But, I'm sure most of you know that already
