| Re: Spy photos BMW 5 series I still don't like it. I had a 1989 525i for 15 years. Loved it. The follow-on body style as very nice as well. The current body style turned me off and when I went to replace my 525i I bought a Porsche Cayenne. Now I'm replacing my Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 2007 335i coupe. It arrives in two weeks. The lines of the 335i coupe are more along the classic lines of the privious two 5 series. Don't know who thought the current 5 series would be appealing. People who buy them can only be doing so for the performance and not for the looks. - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER |

But consider this: Starting with the 1990s BMW began pursuing a new design philosophy, witch becamed visible with the 2001 E65 7 series (and pre 2001 concepts too). Why cars such as the e39 5er and e38 7er paid the price, was because they were underperformers. The E39 5er could only battle head to head with the E klasse in the USA. In Europe and other countries the e39 could not reach the sales of the E klasse nor stop/slow the boom of the Audi A6 (Avant). So something had to be done, because without the USA sales, the e39 5er would be considered a (sales) flop for BMW. While not everybody likes/loves/isn't bothered by its design, the E60 is without a doubt the most succesfull 5er ever (so far). So I guess you can't please everyone. | |

| Re: Spy photos BMW 5 series I think the E60 is a stunning car. Fell in love when I saw the official pics a few summers ago. I just thought it was such a "cool" and fresh looking car. I do understand that it doesn't have the same charm as the E39, or current A6 and Eclass. |

| Re: Spy photos BMW 5 series I find E60 (especially with M body kit) much more appealing than E39. And I'm not the only one ... Eg. just yesterday on a parking lot of a local shopping center a crowd of youngsters (12-15year old, I guess) surrounded a black E60 525i with standard rims, while nobody paid attention to silver S6 (!!!) which sit next to 5er. Modern lines attract the youngster a lot! I also see much more 5ers latle on the roads (most used - being imported from Germany), while not so much A6s - I year ago it was the opposite, yet lately 5ers pop up from everywhere. Conclusion: 5er is very attractive car, yet too expensive. Not only 5er, but also 7er, Z4, X3 and 1ers emereged here lately in quite quantities - all due import of cheaper used BMWs from Germany. So, people want them, but at more reasonable price. **** P.S.: The prototype in the pics is not F10 5er (too early!), but V5 test mule (underneath the E60's body)!
