lol yes, there is a lot of them. I think BMW has done some recalls on it, not sure though but I know there been a software problem with SMG. Tell your friend to visit his BMw dealer to hear what they say about it.

Your friend should join m5board.com. The members there will have all the information for him.

Re: M5 brake down ......

I'm sorry to hear that happened to your cousin. This is the reason why I don't like SMG. It relies too heavily on electronics. Well at least the car is covered under warranty so they should be able to fix it without much hassle. Keep us updated on what happens.

All he need to do is the software update. Alwyas problems with new cars and specialy advanced ones. Personally I would never buy a M5 from the first or second year. Let BMW sort out the problems first.

Im sure it's software because the gears were going 1,2,3,7,N,4,3 and so on . So he slowed down and made a full stop and the car wouldnt take an inch further .....

He is really upset , before this , he had an E500 white , then a CLK 500 ... So he wanted to try something different .

yes it sucks but it will be fixed but yes I agree it sucks to be without a car. I hope his BMW dealer give him a loan car during the time.

Re: M5 brake down ......

I know that the first year cars always have a problem but car companies need to understand that it's a real bad impression when someone who switched car companies buys your car and it breaks down...that gives that person a real bad impression. My friends dad is a real big Merc fan but he wanted to buy something fun for himself so he bought the S4 and he had so many problems with the car that now he swears he will never buy an Audi again.

Re: M5 brake down ......

It happens, by all means not a surprise on any first year car...

Of course the impression left is horrible, but nontheless comes with the territory, im sure he's understanding of it and just wants his car back...
