And I believe that the E300 Bluetec will use much less fuel. The Mercedes brochures and press releases in 2002 claimed that our E320 would need at least 11-12 liters of gasoline per 100 km: yet the car has proven to be very economical despite us driving it sporty with a lot of city traffic at times. On average, we achieve 8.2 L / 100 km with the E320, but we've also gone as low as 7.7 L / 100 km and even 7.0 L / 100 km (!!!) when my mom drove it. A few days later, my father achieved the same results. My personal best was 7.2 L / 100 km.
If a 1.7-ton E320 with a 224-hp 3.2-l V6 can get mileage like this,
imagine what the E300 Bluetec is capable off!

And these are perfectly acceptable numbers. The car is no doubt quicker (probably 6.9 / 7.0 seconds) and the top speed is practically unusable on the Autobahn these days.
Now all that is needed for the luxury masses in Europe is a more affordable
E220 Bluetec.
