Re: Drop your Top (Rolls vs. Bentley)!

Sorry guys for going off-topic a little here. I've kinda fallen behind on the RR Phantom Drophead Coupe. That image used in the thread-starter, is it an official pic of the car?

If so, has RR then decided to include the aluminium hood, because I remember the concept had it, but RR said it would most likely not make it to production?

As for the actual thread topic, I have to say it's a little bit of a mixed bag, but the RR comes out on top fairly comprehensive when all things are considered.

In the looks department the RR wins for me, but the Bentley does have a bit of appeal to me. I like the straight lines which run the length of the Bentley's side, give's a very low-slug, road-holding look. Where the Bentley falls short is it's rather out-dated face. As BMW-Dude said, it's just too similar to the previous car.
Eventhough the RR has that 'lazy' look to it, what needs to be realised is, the car is not designed to LOOK stylish, it IS stylish regardless, it is designed to be a statement of wealth. So that's exactly why people can look past the unemotive facial expression of the new RR's and see the real stand-out meaning behind the design.
The wheel design of the Bentley is just superb, love it so much! I hate the RR wheels in that pic. The originals wheels which came with the Phantom (4-door) were perfect for the car, not thisnew 7-spoke Maybach-wheel lookalike.

Where the RR really puts the Bentley in the shadows is in the areas of technology, presence-factor... and how can anyone look past that rear decklid straight off the drawing boards of a luxury yatch!

I used to be a big fan of the Bentley, all the way up until it got the facelift. Trying to look too cute IMO. The new RR's are in a class of their own.
