DC_Insider did a great job of answering your questions!

So far, the CVT is only available on the A and B-Classes. Why though I don't know because they really sap power on the smaller models. I also drove a B170 with the 5-speed manual and an Autotronic B170 and the CVT B170 was sluggish because the CVT sapped so much power from the modestly powerful engine.

Also, the engines for the A and B-Classes were specifically created for them (see DC_Insider's post).
