I have a Nikon and have been a Nikon fan for a long time.

I am sorry to say, I don't think Nikon will catch up. The companies are not even the same size. For the amount of units Nikon ships it is actually very good. As a matter of fact, I read somwhere that the proportions of units per company size that both of them ship is about the same. So, in the end Nikon doesn't have much to catch up on other than continue making good products. I like Canon a lot don't get me wrong.
